The mission of the Hip Hop ABC's is to use positive and engaging elements of hip hop culture as a teaching tool for parents and educators. The bright colors and unique styles of graffiti catch the eye and encourage children to look closely and interpret what they are seeing in the artwork. The playful use of language and rhyme in emceeing are a great way to remember important facts, explore concepts, and learn about language and phonics. Sampling music for hip hop songs creates a patchwork of ideas from many cultures and can serve as a jumping off point for research projects. Children are eager to find out where the original songs come from and why they are being used. The hip hop beat itself makes people active in dance and fosters the development of social skills. The Hip Hop ABC's seeks to use these hip hop disciplines for entertainment and teaching and to distance hip hop from the negative stereotypes with which it is often associated. The Hip Hop ABC's is also an on-line community that encourages the active participation of our visitors. We use the internet and hip hop to encourage learning and creativity. Hip hop is a vibrant cultural movement relevant to today’s students and children, and the art, dance and music of hip hop will get kids from all backgrounds excited about learning.
